Duck Shit Oolong, known in Chinese as Ya Shi Xiang, is a distinctive Phoenix Dan Cong oolong grown in and around Ping Keng Tou village in the Phoenix Mountains near Chaozhou, Guangdong Province, China. Our selection comes from tea bushes more than 80 years old, growing naturally in this celebrated tea-producing landscape.

Despite its unforgettable name, there is nothing remotely ordinary about this tea.

The name “Duck Shit” is traditionally associated with the distinctive yellow-brown soil found around Ping Keng Tou. That soil, and the broader growing environment of the Phoenix Mountains, is part of the tea’s terroir, influencing the character that develops in the leaf.

Lightly oxidized, with leaves that retain much of their green appearance, this Dan Cong produces an intensely aromatic cup. Floral and honeyed notes mingle with longan, while the delicate mouthfeel carries a sophisticated interplay of sweetness, gentle bitterness, and measured astringency. No single element dominates; the pleasure is in their balance.
