Description

First Flush Yunnan Mao Feng – Chinese Green Tea

Tender, tippy, and remarkably expressive, First Flush Yunnan Mao Feng is a small-batch Chinese green tea produced from Yunnan’s distinctive large-leaf tea varietal.

Unlike many green teas whose leaves are tightly rolled or shaped during processing, this Mao Feng is handled to keep the tender leaves and buds largely intact. The finished tea is visually striking, with large, downy silver buds characteristic of carefully harvested young tea material.

Plucked during the first flush and hand-processed in small batches, the tea balances the freshness expected of an early-season green tea with the fuller character of Yunnan’s large-leaf tea trees.

In the cup, expect a lively combination of green chestnut, fresh florals, vegetal notes, and vibrant umami, supported by a natural sweetness that lingers through the finish. The body is smooth yet substantial, with a pleasantly mouthwatering quality that invites another sip.

This is not a timid green tea. Yunnan’s large-leaf tea material gives it greater presence, while careful brewing preserves the refinement and sweetness of its tender spring leaves and buds.

For tea drinkers who primarily associate Yunnan with pu-erh and dark tea, this Mao Feng reveals a very different expression of the province’s tea tradition: fresh, green, floral, nutty, and beautifully structured.

Cultivate Taste Tea offers pure tea selected for the character of the leaf itself: no added sugar, candy, or flavorings. Our teas are packaged with consideration for environmental impact.

Suggested Steeping

Tea: 1 teaspoon
Water: 8 oz
Temperature: 180°F
Time: 2–3 minutes

Avoid over-steeping to preserve the tea’s natural sweetness and smoothness. Re-steep the leaves to explore how the chestnut, floral, vegetal, and umami notes develop through successive infusions.
