Behind the Scenes of My Tea Journey Profile

Professional cupping of high mountain jade oolong and Jeju Island Korean green tea.

By Jennifer Nowicki, Founder of Cultivate Taste Tea

When Tea Journey reached out to feature my story, I felt deeply honored. Their publication is one of the few dedicated to elevating tea as an art, a craft, and a cultural heritage. To be included among tasters and professionals I admire was both humbling and meaningful.

How My Journey Began

My path into tea began with curiosity, a desire to understand why certain leaves spoke with elegance, complexity, or emotional resonance. That curiosity pushed me into formal training, years of cupping practice, and a commitment to understanding tea not just as a beverage but as a craft, a culture, and an art form.Everything I do today at Cultivate Taste Tea grew from that foundation.

The Discipline of Cupping

Cupping taught me to see tea through structure, aroma, texture, energy, and place.
Flavor is only the beginning.

This discipline shaped my sourcing philosophy at Cultivate Taste Tea, I choose teas that speak with clarity, provenance, and integrity.

The Leaves That Guided Me

  • Green tea: my starting point, full of memory and emotion.
  • Oolong: my turning point, the tea that sharpened my palate.
  • White: my loyal friend, always there for calming and clarifying.

These categories helped me refine my understanding of tea’s sensory language.

Why This Feature Matters

I built Cultivate Taste Tea to share teas that deserve to be tasted with intention.
Tea Journey’s profile gave me the space to share the philosophy behind my work: the respect for the leaf, the appreciation for terroir, and the commitment to complexity and authenticity.
