Oh, my favorite tea can help me and many others. This is exciting news for people who have a history of breast cancer in their family and women in general because of 250,000 new diagnoses per year in just the United States. Oolong has been known to be very complex tea that is semi-oxidized (they are between green teas and black teas). The complexity might be the reason it helps breast cancer. They tend to be one of the more expensive teas, but are also known as multiple steeping teas. The article was really good and like how they say that even though oolongs are oxidized 2- 80% (though I know of red oolongs tend to be oxidized more) most Chinese and Taiwanese oolongs are oxidized 15-50% shows the preference in greener oolongs.
I have stated before and will state again there is not one tea that is better to drink for health, it depends on the health issue and also what tea you will actually drink. I know recently matcha was all the rage for adding to recipes. Also remember pu-erh, lapsong souchong, and jasmine green teas having there times as being popular to add to recipes. Looks like now Earl Grey is gaining popularity according to World Tea News. It is predicted to be one of the top 10 Food Trends of 2018. Mike Kostyo, senior publications manager at Datassential has noticed earl grey has been creeping into menus and cocktails across the country.
Another great article from the World Tea News. This is great news for Nepal and I am a little surprised other tea origin countries have not done this yet, especially China. China is where white, yellow, green, oolong, purple, black, and pu-erh teas were first made. They deserve some respect for that. China is so remote in some areas that we are still discovering new teas that the Chinese people have been doing sometimes thousands of years.
I like the idea of the high standards like it must be organic for the trademark. Hopefully, people will realize the quality of Nepalese orthodox tea. The orthodox method just means tea done the traditional way, instead of by machines. Nepal is so poor orthodox method is still really viable. If this trademark gets some status to it, Nepal tea will not have to be smuggled into India to be sold as “Darjeeling” tea. Nepal must use the smaller leaf of camelia sinensis sinensis because Darjeeling teas use this leaf and most other teas in the surrounding areas of India use camelia sinensis assamica ( a broader leaf).
Some more good news about green tea becoming more popular. Found this article about a week or two ago in the World Tea News. They have many articles about the tea industry, sometimes good, sometimes so-so, and sometimes bad. The main goal is to be accurate about various aspects of the tea industry. I have been lucky to have subscribed to this newsletter for over a dozen years. Learning trends and sometimes strifes that happen in areas of the tea growing world. It was nice to read an article that was predominately giving good news for my industry.
As a lover of Japanese green teas, I really like reading this article. Not only does Japanese green tea taste good to me and it is a very healthy beverage too.
Right now I only have 2 Japanese green teas: Sencha and Genmaicha, but can get special orders of almost any green tea from Japan. It may take awhile, but it is doable. I am waiting for my business to pick up a little before I do several grades of matcha tea. The photo below is Sencha tea.
Chinese style green tea is also very healthy and tasty too. Some people prefer one over the other, so choose the one you like the most. Be happy that you are enjoying a tasty beverage that is increasing in popularity and good for your health.
