Most people do not realize how many different green teas are in Japan and are just starting to realize it’s health benefits. Other green teas are healthy too and have different characteristics. This post mentions The Book of Tea, Okakura Kakuzo saying “Tea began as a medicine and grew into a beverage”. It also focuses on Japanese green teas. If you have a high quality Japanese green tea that is brewed properly it is very tasty and very healthy for you too. I have quite a few Japanese green teas that just arrive less than a month ago here.

This article talks about the health benefits of green tea and how it is important to Chinese and Japanese culture. This article deals with a study in the Journal of Periodontology talking about the green tea’s promotes healthy teeth and gums. The article is really good and pretty thorough though I assume the published study goes in depth with medical terminology. Yet again another great article from the Specialty Tea Institute.
This article oversimplifies the different types of tea. They forgot white, aged, yellow, and purple teas. This article goes over what the last post mentioned that green tea helps with weight loss, liver disorder, Alzheimer’s and type 2 diabetes. It also goes over traditional Chinese and Indian medicinal uses for treating wounds and controlling bleeding, for aiding in digestion and regulating the body temperature. It mentions that green tea may help breast cancer, prostate cancer, ovarian cancer, lung cancer, skin cancer, and colorectal cancer. The article continues with the last post that green tea’s polyphenols are most likely the reason for helping reduce certain cancers with catechins especially EGCGs. It goes into how green tea helps with brain function; fat burning; lowering the risk for Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s; dental health; Type 2 diabetes; and cardiovascular disease. Overall a decent article that focuses on green tea and goes over polyphenols, catechins, EGCG, l-theanine, antioxidants, and caffeine.
Oh, my favorite tea can help me and many others. This is exciting news for people who have a history of breast cancer in their family and women in general because of 250,000 new diagnoses per year in just the United States. Oolong has been known to be very complex tea that is semi-oxidized (they are between green teas and black teas). The complexity might be the reason it helps breast cancer. They tend to be one of the more expensive teas, but are also known as multiple steeping teas. The article was really good and like how they say that even though oolongs are oxidized 2- 80% (though I know of red oolongs tend to be oxidized more) most Chinese and Taiwanese oolongs are oxidized 15-50% shows the preference in greener oolongs.
I have stated before and will state again there is not one tea that is better to drink for health, it depends on the health issue and also what tea you will actually drink. A nice article shows the health benefits of black and green tea. Some common elements of both teas protect your heart, boost your brain function, the presence of EGCG in black tea(though not as much as green tea), and beneficial theaflavins in black tea. The article also into some other health benefits too. In the end, it suggests that someone should drink what tea they like best, which I agree. Both are healthy though some different benefits and many similar. There is one drawback to tea for some. It is the caffeine. Caffeine can be beneficial to some and some people cannot have it at all. This article is for all the men and for ladies who have men in their life, aka pretty much anyone. The article states that 80% of men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer by the time they are 60 years old. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer for men. This is a really short article and does not state the percentage of drinking a couple cups of green tea can help reduce prostate cancer, just that it can. I do not doubt it can help with prostate cancer, but was hoping on a percentage of or another nominal amount especially since it states 80 % and 2 cups of green tea a day.
