This comes up every once in a while. I had a really nice lady who said she visited England and insisted it was High Tea, not Afternoon Tea. All I can say is that she must have gone to am American tourist spot or somewhere where they were tired of correcting Americans to have tea because I know of a place in England that calls it High Tea only because almost all of their customers are coming from the USA.
Here is an excerpt from the Tea Association of the USA on the history of it:
Anna, Duchess of Bedford, is credited with creating Afternoon Tea in 1840 when she began taking tea with a light snack around 4:00 p.m. to ward off “that sinking feeling.”
High Tea originated with the rural and working-class British, who would return to their homes at about 6:00 p.m. for a meal of potted meats, fish, cheese, salads, sweets, and a pot of strong tea.
I also have an article from the Telegraph about the Queen called “How to make an afternoon tea fit for a Queen, from her former pastry chef”.
Although this misrepresentation has been around for awhile it is a classic reason just Googling it does not mean it is always true. It is so easy for someone to say they are an authority of something and accidentally spread misinformation that gets spread around the internet. This is why influencers are losing their ground.
I became a certified tea specialist because before I became one I would have believed that it is called high tea in England. I wanted to get my knowledge from the actual experts. I actually do like the lady who got this wrong and I am not giving identifiable information because my goal is not to shame her in public, but only to give the correct information.
I am really happy to be a part of the Ready Retail Lab at Willy Street Coop. I am the vendor for October. This is a big deal for me because they will have my product at their 3 locations. The order is almost ready, just a few things that will arrive tomorrow, but just confirmed Monday that I will deliver the order on Saturday, September 29, 2018 so I should be good. I hope to learn from this experience and hope everything goes well. Would like it if they decide to continue to use my product after October, but that will be known after October. I have other prospects, but until they are for sure that is all I will say.
Also do have some vendor events as the holiday season nears and some of them are the same ones I was a part of last year. Here is hoping that they go as well as last year or even gasp better. I was struggling with what to write today, so this post may not be one of my better ones.
Many of these places have been in the works for several months. I have my tea to buy as retail at Glass Art & Supply in Green Bay and Inspire Art Gallery in De Pere. If you want to drink my tea try The Cannery Public Market it is being served in their restaurant. Coming in October I am honored to be part of the Ready Retail Lab at Willy Street Coop. Hopefully this leads to me having my tea there after October. There are 3 locations, so this would be great. I have a few other places in the works, but until I have set dates and firmed up the details I will keep it to myself.
My farmers markets are winding down with only Algoma Farmer’s Market going until the end of October the rest are until the end of September. I have a few vendor events that I will vend. Hopefully a great opportunity for November and December, but that is not a sure thing and until it is certain I will not say anything about it.
Oh, almost forgot I am doing the NEWaukee Night Market this Wednesday and this Saturday I will be a part of 18th Annual Boxer Bash besides doing three of my farmers markets.
I will be competing in the Light Up the Lakeshore and hopefully will win. There is a write up in the Inside UW-Green Bay News. I registered for another competition gBETA also. People were questioning why I would try to finish my business administration degree. I already had a minor in business administration and have small business experience. I am glad I did that is for sure. My professor Ryan Kauth who has been the professor for several classes knows my dedication and drive. He has told me about a few contests to apply for money, learning some things that my other education has missed, and other connections. I believe he does this for other people that he believes can start and grow businesses. He is a huge advocate for these people. I am glad I am one of the people he believes in. If you would like to attend there is a Facebook event with some details here.
Oh, also I have set up with Square for people who want to buy gift cards for people. This will be handy during the holiday season and well for other special occasions. You can buy an online gift card here.
Hello Everyone! I have been busy with classes and getting ready for Farmer’s Markets and Night Fairs. I am currently doing the Wednesday night farmer’s market on Broadway in Green Bay (3 pm to 8 pm) until the end of September inside the Glass Art & Supply, Thursday at the De Pere Farmer’s Market (4 pm to 8 pm) until the end of September, Friday starting next week a Farmer’s Market in Sturgeon Bay (2 pm to 6 pm) until the end of October, and Sunday morning Farmer’s Market (9 am to noon) until the end of October. I have been asked to do the Titletown Night Market and may try it a couple times, but it is on Thursday night the same time as the De Pere Farmer’s Market. I also am doing the Night Market at Nomad Nacional in Milwaukee this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. July 19th I will be at the Bazaar after dark in Neenah and August 15th & September 12th I will be back in Milwaukee for the NEWaukee Night Market (5 pm to 10 pm). I may have monthly Saturday events in Juneau but need the details and waiting for the person to contact me back. Hoping to have some good news when I return from Milwaukee to announce. I also have some holiday fairs lined up in November in Milwaukee that I did last year.
I do not have my place anymore and got a little sad because I still get requests to book my old place for meetings, bridal/baby showers/etc…. The top portion was absolutely gorgeous and as soon as anyone saw it they were instantly smitten. I had to reject another request today. I miss giving out tulips to mothers and having kids and dads spoiling mothers at my place. Valentine’s Day and Mother’s day almost always were busy and reservations were recommended. Some Mother’s Day teas and tisanes pictured, but actually, any tea would work if the mother liked it. Rose Niligiri top, Lemon Rose Green bottom left, and Lavender Green Rooibos bottom right.
The Eclectic Market was good, though a little slow. The weather is most likely the reason because there were a lot of really great vendors and it was snowing. I still did decently. Sunday when I did not have any event the weather was nice. Monday evening when I had my class, we had an ice storm, so I had to cancel my class. Welcome to Wisconsin and winter here. Ok, it is not as bad as the picture I used.
Hopefully, soon I can have some time to make some more blends. I have a couple ideas but want to see how they turn out before saying what they are. I enjoy preparing my classes and getting ready for vendor events, but haven’t done any blending in a while and kinda want to do some of that. Hopefully soon.
I should also take care of a shipment I received from Taiwan. Some really nice oolongs.
This Saturday I will hopefully be doing a Japanese tea tasting and Japanese tea history. Hopefully Friday I will hear good news about a potential prospect. Today I had a meeting with a lady to partner with her and someone else, details will come once some things get more formalized. Next Monday evening I will be teaching another free Tea 101 class, aka intro to tea.
I think my next post will be more informative than telling my goings on. Hopefully, my writing will also be better than that last sentence, lol.
Well, I have my Tea 101 class at the 9th Street Wellness Center in Green Bay at 10 am Saturday, February 3, 2018. It is a free class, so join us! A little nervous and excited at the same time. I hope it goes well.
I hopefully will have a good meeting with a company on Friday that we might work together and another meeting Monday with a person that is in the stages of hopefully working together. Fingers crossed and if they come true I will be happy to announce the details. I am cautiously optimistic about this year, heavy on the cautious part.
